Having moved to the Pacific Northwest (Western Washington area) in the early 60’swhen it truly was the wild, wild west, there was, to my delight, a solid equine communityestablished in my area. Diving in head first, I was intrigued and excited to participate inall things ‘horse’. Finding a small family owned farm which took me under its wing, Iabsorbed all facets of horse care. Western riding was my interest. It wasn’t long until Ipersuaded my parents to purchase an exceedingly well trained (fortunately!) 14hQuarter horse Appaloosa named Cinnamon. Many hours of memories were made withthat horse. A group of us rode irresponsibly at very young age; everywhere we dared:trail riding where Microsoft is located currently and a nearby lake where a herd of wildhorses resided. As time went on, my interest expanded to all animals. Focusing aheadto college and dreams of becoming a Veterinarian, the opportunities unfortunately werenot to be. I was however accepted into one of the first AVMA developed programs forVeterinary Technicians to become state certified, in the mid 70’s. I went on to expand my large andsmall animal interests working in clinic and raising and showing Scottish Terriers formany years.Later in life my career path shifted to customer support andmanagement with a Fortune 500 company which I loved. I am now retired.Family encouraged us to move halfway across country to Chapman, Kansas. Itwasn’t long before I became aware of Rainbow Meadows Equine Rescue andRetirement and a volunteer opportunity was offered. I was thrilled! Over the last fewyears the knowledge gained about horse rescue, hands on care, and the intensedevotion it takes, rivals a college degree. Thank you to our founders Karen and DavidEverhart for sharing all their expansive knowledge and experience with us.I look forward, with our incredible team, to continue the care that our rescue horses deserveand spreading the word of Rescue Done Right!
